U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for June 14: Hot Dogs

WEBWIRE

WASHINGTON, June 13 -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature for June 14 from the U.S. Census Bureau:

THURSDAY, JULY 14: HOT DOGS

Profile America Thursday, July 14th. Foods come and go in popularity, but one of them is a consistent favorite, year in and year out. To honor our long-running appetite, this is National Hot Dog Month. Whether called frankfurters in a tip of the hat to their German origin or wieners or just plain hot dogs, we love them. From cocktail miniatures to foot-long versions, Americans eat about 16-billion hot dogs a year. That works out to more than 50 for each person in the country. To note the strong affiliation of hot dogs and baseball, we consume more than 27-million each year at major league parks. Hot dogs are a major part of the nearly 26-billion dollars in processed meats sold in the U.S. annually. One can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Web at http://www.census.gov.
