2025 Sony Open in Hawaii

Tokyo, Japan – WEBWIRE

Sony Group Corporation ("Sony") today announced details for the "Sony Open in Hawaii" golf tournament to be held from Monday, January 6th to Sunday, January 12th, 2025 in Oahu, Hawaii (US).

Sony has sponsored the Sony Open in Hawaii continuously since 1999. Each year, all proceeds from this event are channeled back into the Hawaiian community through charity partner Friends of Hawaii Charities, to support children, women, the elderly and the economically disadvantaged. With a total of over $25 million donated*1 to over 350 charities to date, the tournament is the largest charity sports event in Hawaii.

The title sponsor’s invitation spots for the Japan Golf Association and the Japan Golf Tour Organization (JGTO) selected through the "Sony Open Challenge" will go to amateur golfer Mao Matsuyama and professional golfer Kensei Hirata. This initiative aims to support the dreams of young golfers playing in Japan who wish to compete on a global level.

Through this sponsorship of the Sony Open in Hawaii, Sony aims to create new Kando (emotion) experiences and contribute to the further development of sports as well as continue supporting the local community in Hawaii.

Comments from Mao Matsuyama (Amateur invited by Japan Golf Association)

I am truly honored to have the opportunity to participate in the Sony Open in Hawaii. It still feels like a dream and doesn’t seem real, but I am really looking forward to experiencing the unique atmosphere of the PGA Tour and testing how far my skills can take me. I hope to make this a week where I can gain experience and absorb new things so that I can be successful in the future, just like those who have participated through the "Sony Open Challenge" before me.

Comments from Kensei Hirata (Professional invited by Japan Golf Tour Organization)

I participated in the 2024 Sony Open in Hawaii, but unfortunately, missed the cut on the second day which was truly disappointing and highlighted the need for me to elevate my skills. One year on, I am very excited at the prospect of being able to demonstrate my growth since then. Following my experience here in 2024, I believe my desire to become stronger, and come back to this stage to play better, is what led to my four wins on the JGTO Tour this season. I look forward to expressing the confidence I have gained over the past year at the tournament.

  • *1:Proceeds from the tournament will be matched by Hawaii Community Foundation, a partner that focuses on providing local and community-based support in Hawaii.
