Garanti BBVA achieves record score in S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment

BBVA’s Turkish franchise secured its highest-ever score of 85 in the 2024 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), leading Türkiye’s banking sector once again. The bank also ranked 15th globally among 668 financial institutions assessed, further cementing its position as a leader in sustainability. S&P Global-CSA is one of the most respected platforms for evaluating corporate sustainability, providing a benchmark for international investors. The assessment covers areas such as business ethics, governance, risk management, climate action, transparency, and human rights.

Garanti BBVA CEO Mahmut Akten put the spotlight on the bank’s long-term commitment to sustainability: "As pioneers in sustainability since the early 2000s, we have integrated environmental, social, and governance principles into everything we do.” Garanti BBVA was the first Turkish bank to pledge to coal phase-out and to join the UN Net Zero Banking Alliance. The bank’s efforts, recognized by S&P Global, reflect progress in areas like financed emissions, financial inclusion, and emerging risk management, resulting in an 11-point improvement from last year.

Garanti BBVA continues to innovate with sustainable finance products and services while addressing critical issues such as gender equality, energy efficiency, financial literacy, and the circular economy. At a global level, BBVA Group earned for the fifth year running the best score in the banking category in Europe and finished joint third globally in the latest S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA).
