ACCIONA, as part of the Calcasieu Bridge Partners consortium, has won the PFI P3 Deal of the Year award for the financing of the Interstate 10 (I-10) Calcasieu River Bridge, one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Louisiana, with an investment of $2.3 billion and a 50-year concession.
The consortium, consisting of Plenary Americas (40%), Sacyr (30%) and ACCIONA (30%), in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), has financed the project through a $1.33 billion tax-exempt private activity bond transaction. J.P. Morgan Securities LLC, and Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. participated in the financing.
The toll project will connect the cities of Lake Charles and Westlake in Louisiana. The project includes a new bridge with a total of eight lanes, three in each direction for traffic and an additional auxiliary lane. Other scope include demolition and removal of the existing 70-year-old bridge over the Calcasieu River once traffic is transferred to the new bridge.
