Michael Gilbride Reflects on 30 Years as an NYC Teacher in Sobering Memoir Set to Exhibit at London Book Fair 2025

A former teacher and psychologist, Michael Gilbride has spent 30 years directly facing the problems of equality in the American school system. And having spent that time in New York City, he has also much to write about when it comes to trauma. He reflects on all of these in a soul-searching memoir simply titled “Memoirs of Thirty Years in the Classroom,” which is set to share its story among the exhibits of the upcoming London Book Fair 2025.

Michael Gilbride’s book "Memoirs of Thirty Years in the Classroom: Public, Private and Parochial" will be displayed by ReadersMagnet at the London Book Fair 2025.

The London Book Fair attracts hundreds of publishers and many independent authors who are eager to broaden their audiences via distributors. However, it also makes this annual convention a place to find dozens of authors whose stories are repositories of lived history.

That is certainly one way to describe Michael Gilbride’s book “Memoirs of Thirty Years in the Classroom: Public, Private and Parochial.” As the title suggests, it shares a 30-year career in New York city schools (distributed across public, private, and parochial ones). He has not only taught in the classroom, but also served in the capacity of school psychologist.

Those three decades shown him just how much of NYC’s youth have struggled, which included the traumatic episode of 9/11 as well as the frequent struggles born about by rising inequality. The sharp contrasts in the lives of students at different educational institutions have left its mark, and his memoir shares his deepest reflections on the journey to becoming an educator as well as the current state of the U.S. school system.

Today, while retired from teaching, he is still practicing as a psychologist and continues to work between New York and Puerto Rico with his wife, Providencia. He is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Modern Language Association and is currently aiming for membership in PEN International.

It is his hope that his foray into publishing can help spread further awareness of the challenges being faced by American youth in their campaign for better rights.

Visitors to the 2025 London Book Fair can find “Memoirs of Thirty Years in the Classroom: Public, Private and Parochial” at the exhibit of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing company, at stand no. 6A90. The book trade fair will be held at the Olympia London on March 11-13, 2025. Get a copy of Michael Gilbride’s book on Amazon.
