“Wordle Limericks: Flamericks” by Marshall S. Flam MD Evokes Fun and Learning

The limerick form consists of five lines in the rhyming pattern of AABBA. Dr. Flam has enjoyed limericks since his teenage years. His discovery of the internet game Wordle combined with his love of limericks has resulted in the creation of his book “Wordle Limericks: Flamericks.”

Dr. Marshall S. Flam has always enjoyed and invented limericks. However, it was not until he discovered Wordle, a web-based word game, that he began to see limericks in a new light. “Wordle Limericks” is a collection of 603 limericks inspired by the first 401 daily Wordle words. The introductory chapters provide a historical overview of the limerick form and Wordle. Given that there are 2,315 five-letter words in English, the compilation plans to span eight volumes.

The limericks in this collection cover a range of themes, including humor, history, science, mathematics, literature, politics, grammar, psychology, music, medicine, and classical bawdy content. Footnotes are included for more obscure limericks and those intended for educational purposes. Rather than traditional obscene limericks, these pieces are designed to entertain and inform, following the book’s motto: “Laugh & Learn.”

Additionally, the book contains tables that allow readers to search for limericks in 33 different categories and related limericks on specific subjects. Dr. Marshall S. Flam is an MIT graduate who spent 40 years practicing and teaching Oncology and Hematology. “Wordle Limericks” is his debut non-medical publication. A proud father of five accomplished daughters, Dr. Flam enjoys a variety of hobbies, including tennis, skiing, singing, gourmet cooking, mixology, and traveling. He divides his time between Fresno, California, and Sun Valley, Idaho, where he resides with his retired pediatrician wife, who is originally from Chile.
