Millie Bright extends contract with Chelsea

The 31-year-old has made 280 appearances and recently surpassed a decade spent at the club, further establishing her as our longest-serving women’s player.

England international Bright already has a legacy at the club having been a part of and lifted every honour the Blues have won, including seven Women’s Super League titles, five FA Cups, two League Cups, the WSL Spring Series, and the Community Shield.

Upon signing her new deal, Bright said: ‘Representing this club and continuing our journey together was never a question to me. This club is my home. Chelsea runs through me. The legacy continues…’

Head of women’s football Paul Green added: ‘Millie is the leader of the team and our longest serving player. This extension will take her into her 12th season at the club, which is a big achievement.

‘Millie leads by example on and off the pitch and has been a key player in our success over the last decade. She recently became the player with the most WSL wins, a milestone reflecting the quality she continues to display.’

Bright joined Chelsea in 2014 from Doncaster Rovers Belles and has gone on to have an illustrious career in London with only two campaigns not yielding silverware.

Whilst her priorities have always been with the team at the forefront, our skipper celebrated an individual landmark earlier this season as she became the player with the outright most wins in WSL history.

She has been named in the PFA’s WSL Team of the Year on three occasions, twice in the FIFA FIFPro Women’s World XI and was awarded an OBE for services to association football in the King’s New Year Honours List for 2024.

As she has done at Chelsea, Bright has been an ever-reliable player for her country, representing England more than 80 times since her senior debut in 2016.

The defender was an integral part of the Lionesses’ European Championship triumph on home soil in 2022, starting all six games en route to lifting the trophy, before she captained England to a World Cup final and runners-up medal the following summer.
