Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway out of use from 10 to 18 March for annual maintenance
From Monday 10 to Tuesday 18 March, annual regular maintenance work will be taking place on the Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway. This has little impact on major air traffic, as we mainly use this runway for small, business and private aircraft, aircraft with a social interest (ambulance, coast guard or government flights) and aircraft that need to be at Schiphol-Oost. During the period of maintenance, this traffic will use the Buitenveldertbaan Runway, the Aalsmeerbaan Runway or one of the other runways.
It is necessary to carry out annual maintenance on all the runways, so that they remain in good condition for safe air traffic. The Schiphol-Oostbaan Runway will be undergoing restorative works on the asphalt and markings. The cabling and electrics will be checked, the rainwater drainage system will be flushed out, the grass around the runway will be cut and the lights will be cleaned or repaired. Schiphol combines as many of these activities as possible to ensure that the maintenance time is as short as possible. These works are being carried out in collaboration with construction company Heijmans.
The use of alternative runways
During the maintenance, air traffic will be directed to other runways, such as the Buitenveldertbaan Runway and Aalsmeerbaan Runway. As a result, more aircraft will fly over the flight paths of these runways during the maintenance. We realise this has an impact on our neighbours. That is why we plan the runway maintenance carefully and do everything we can to carry out the maintenance as efficiently as possible.
