Statement on Tropical Cyclone Alfred

WEBWIRE

Attributable to a Virgin Australia spokesperson:

Safety is always our top priority, and our meteorologists continue to closely monitor the weather system. We are working with all stakeholders including airports, local councils, and authorities as the situation evolves.

Virgin Australia has paused operations in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Ballina on Friday (7 March) and Saturday (8 March). We are now preparing for the recommencement of flights from these ports, as soon as it is safe to do so.

At this stage, we expect to resume flying around 10:00am local time in Brisbane on Sunday (9 March). For the Gold Coast, we expect flying to commence no earlier than 12:00pm local time on Sunday (9 March). We are still determining the timing for the resumption of operations at Ballina and Sunshine Coast Airport based on evolving weather advice.

We are proactively reaching out to all impacted guests booked to travel during this period to reaccommodate their flights with us.

We encourage all guests flying to or from South East Queensland and northern NSW this week to regularly check their flight status on the Virgin Australia website for updates.

Updates on operations

  • Brisbane, QLD (BNE) – Flights suspended from 4:00pm (AEST) Thursday (6 March) until Sunday (9 March).
  • Gold Coast, QLD (OOL) – Flights suspended from Wednesday afternoon (5 March) until Sunday (9 March).

  • Sunshine Coast, QLD (MCY) – Flights suspended from Friday afternoon (7 March) until Sunday (9 March).
