Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Gainesville

Author Audrey Ingram to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 9AM on Wednesday, March 19th, 2025

Gainesville, VA – WEBWIRE

Barnes & Noble is thrilled to announce the opening of its Gainesville, VA bookstore on Wednesday, March 19th. The new Barnes & Noble is located in The Shops at Stonewall (8139 Stonewall Shops Square, Gainesville, VA 20155), in the space formerly occupied by Bed Bath & Beyond, between Ross and Michaels.

The new Barnes & Noble will officially open to the public at 9AM EST on Wednesday the 19th, with author Audrey Ingram cutting the ribbon and signing copies of her books, including The River Runs South and The Group Trip.

The bookstore showcases the highly lauded design seen in the most recent Barnes & Noble store openings, featuring all the best books, toys, games and gifts that customers have come to expect from the nation’s premier bookseller. The bookstore will also house an updated B&N Café.

“We are very pleased to open this new Gainesville Barnes & Noble,” said James Daunt, CEO, Barnes & Noble. “We are opening new bookstores at a pace not seen in decades — with Gainesville following our new location in Manassas and our successful return to Georgetown in D.C. last fall. Now our booksellers are excited to welcome customers into their own Barnes & Noble bookstore here in Gainesville.”

Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. In 2024, Barnes & Noble opened more new bookstores in a single year than it had in the whole decade from 2009 to 2019. The bookseller expects to open over 60 new bookstores in 2025.

The Gainesville location is one of four new Barnes & Noble bookstores set to open in March, alongside new stores in Florida, Michigan and New York. Each grand opening has drawn enthusiastic crowds that wrap around the building, filling the store as the ribbon is cut.

“I am very excited to open a Barnes & Noble bookstore in Gainesville and to become part of the fabric of this area,” said Store Manager Thomas Forrester, longtime Barnes & Noble Bookseller.  “We can’t wait to share our love of books with the Gainesville community.”
