France Télévisions and Brut, official partners of the Festival de Cannes, are delighted to announce that French actor Laurent Lafitte will be the Master of Ceremonies for the 78th edition of the biggest international film festival.
From 13 to 24 May 2025, France Télévisions and Brut will broadcast in-depth coverage and highlights of the Festival so that it can be accessed from anywhere by anyone with a screen.
French actor, author and director, trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique in Paris and at Guildford School of Acting in England.
After working with directors such as Mathieu Kassovitz, Guillaume Canet, Claude Miller and Michel Gondry and receiving critical acclaim for his over 350 performances in his one-man show “Laurent Lafitte comme son nom l’indique”, he joined the Comédie-Française in 2012. His name became synonymous with the acting troupe through his various roles in plays from Gogol, Voltaire, Feydeau, Shakespeare, Proust, Marivaux and Renoir.
In 2016, he worked alongside Isabelle Huppert in the film Elle, directed by Paul Verhoeven, which was selected in Competition and for which he received his first nomination at the César Awards. That same year, he presented the opening and closing ceremonies of the 69th Festival de Cannes. His performance as lieutenant Pradelle in Albert Dupontel’s Au revoir là-haut (See You Up There) (2016) gave him his second nomination at the 43rd César Awards. Constantly alternating between film and theatre projects, Lafitte has worked with the likes of Patricia Mazuy, Pierre Schoeller, Sébastien Marnier, Louis Leterrier, Céline Devaux, Martin Bourboulon and Rachid Hami.
In 2020, he had his directorial debut with L’Origine du monde (Dear Mother). He directed Karin Viard, Vincent Macaigne and Hélène Vincent and the film was part of the Official Selection at the 2020 Festival de Cannes.
He joined the cast of the play “Le Côté de Guermantes (The Guermantes Way)”, which is based on the novel by Marcel Proust, directed by Christophe Honoré, as well as starring in the film version later that year.
Two thousand twenty-two was another year of amazing projects. In the Comédie-Française, Lafitte played Dom Juan, directed by Emmanuel Daumas. In film, he played Molière in Le Molière Imaginaire (Molière’s Last Stage), directed by Olivier Py, and he shot the David Oelhoffen film Le Quatrième Mur (The Fourth Wall).
In 2023, he played Bernard Tapie in the Netflix series Tapie (Class Act), directed by Tristan Séguéla, for which he was also an Associate Producer. The series won the BAFTA for International in 2024 and earned Laurent a nomination at the International Emmy Awards for Best Performance by an Actor. That same year he worked with Julie Delpy in Les Barbares (Meet the Barbarians) and played Gérard de Villefort in the adaptation of Le Comte de Monte-Cristo (The Count of Monte Cristo), directed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre De La Patellière, one of France’s biggest box office hits and for which he was once again nominated at the César Awards.
In 2024, he decided to leave the Comédie-Française after 12 years. His last role was Cyrano de Bergerac in the Salle Richelieu, and for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the Molière Awards. That same year he worked on various film projects with Guillaume Nicloux, Thierry Klifa, Antony Cordier, Nicolas Charlet and Bruno Lavaine as well as Jérôme Commandeur and Emily Atef, with the films set to be released in 2025 and 2026.
In 2025, he will star in the iconic role of Albin in the musical “La Cage aux Folles” directed by Olivier Py at the Théâtre du Châtelet.
