HNTB’s Mary Jane O’Meara honored with Mary Peters Inspirational Leader Award by WTS International

Mary Jane O’Meara, HNTB national tolling practice consultant and vice president, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the prestigious Mary Peters Inspirational Leader Award from WTS International. The award is given to individuals who have made a significant positive impact on the transportation industry through their leadership and influence.

A past president of the WTS International Board, O’Meara is a longtime and active member of the WTS-Boston Chapter, which included time serving as the president.

“Receiving this award is an incredible honor and I feel so fortunate to join the company of so many other inspirational leaders who have been recognized with this award previously,” said O’Meara. “Throughout my career, I have remained deeply committed to doing what I can to help advance opportunity for women in transportation and provide the same type of mentorship and support that I received.”

Prior to joining HNTB in 2011, O’Meara served in leadership roles for various transportation agencies in Massachusetts. She began her career at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority before moving to the Massachusetts Port Authority to serve as operations manager for the Tobin Bridge. She eventually was named director of the Tobin Bridge. O’Meara also was an original founder of the New England Toll Association to help advance cooperation among tolling authorities in the region.

In addition to her involvement in WTS, O’Meara has been an active member of the International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association (IBTTA), including time serving as president of the IBTTA board. In 2020, she was honored by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association as the recipient of the Ethel S. Birchland Lifetime Achievement Award.
