AT&T Signs International Programming Agreement With SES AMERICOM’s IP-PRIME
PRINCETON, N.J. and SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.- SES AMERICOM, an SES company (Euronext Paris and Luxembourg exchange: SESG) and AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced an agreement to supply AT&T U-verseSM TV with international programming via SES AMERICOM’s IP-PRIME® platform. SES AMERICOM will also provide international programming for AT&T broadband and wireless platforms.
“The United States’ ethnic population is a fast growing and dynamic sector. By securing additional international programming from IP-PRIME, we are reaffirming our commitment to meeting the diverse needs and interests of our growing subscriber base,” said Rob Thun, AT&T senior vice president of programming. “The AT&T U-verse Internet Protocol platform allows us to deliver unparalleled consumer choice, and through agreements such as that with IP-PRIME, we can capitalize on these advantages to provide our customers with the best international programming across all three screens.”
“Providing AT&T U-verse TV with international programming reflects the extensive relationships and agreements we have with leading programmers throughout Europe, Asia, Latin America and the rest of the world, and is a great example of IP-PRIME’s advantage in being part of the SES global family,” said Bill Squadron, President of SES AMERICOM’s IP-PRIME division.
IP-PRIME receives and encodes video from any source, formats the content, and distributes it to any media platform. The process takes place at IP-PRIME’s super headend facility in Vernon Valley, N.J., where content is encoded into the MPEG-4 video standard used in IP to optimize the picture quality of each program while requiring only half the bandwidth of programs in the older MPEG-2 standard. Programs are then uplinked to the IP-PRIME satellites, which in turn will deliver the content to AT&T video super hub offices for distribution to U-verse customers.
