China Eastern Airlines to be launch Boeing customer for Rockwell Collins’ dPAVES in-flight entertainment system
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa .- China Eastern Airlines has selected Rockwell Collins dPAVES in-flight entertainment system for six new Boeing 737-800, and 30 A320 aircraft. This selection marks the debut of Rockwell Collins’ dPAVES on Boeing aircraft. The first hardware deliveries will be made in 2008 and continue through 2010.
dPAVES, which was introduced in September 2006, is the digital version of Rockwell Collins’ PAVES programmable audio video entertainment system.
"With dPAVES, we equip airlines to take their IFE products to the next level. The digital enhancement of our widely regarded PAVES system offers solutions tailored to the diverse needs of today’s single aisle IFE products" said Tommy Dodson, vice president and general manager, Cabin Systems for Rockwell Collins. "Reductions in size, weight and power, coupled with one of the most reliable systems in the industry, ensure lower lifecycle costs and more operational benefits than existing analog systems"
China Eastern Airlines’ dPAVES system will feature the 160 gigabyte Broadcast Digital Server (BDS) including the industry’s first integrated 3D Airshow moving map application, which can be customized with the Airshow Configuration Editor; high-quality 10-inch retractable Liquid Crystal Displays; Rockwell Collins’ Flyable Data Loader (FDL) for easy loading of digital content; and the capability to automatically deliver programming perfectly timed for the length route through automated scripting.
The dPAVES system provides up to an 85 percent reduction in volume, a 70 percent reduction in weight and a 75 percent reduction in power over the analog system. Additionally, dPAVES offers more storage capability than other digital players, with up to 60 hours of video, including encrypted content, and 128 hours of audio on a 160 gigabyte hard drive. The large storage capability allows China Eastern Airlines to store two play periods of entertainment content, and the server automatically selects the new content when the new play period starts.
