Eurostar links ticketing with UK train operators
Travel between the UK and mainland Europe now only needs a single ticket following a systems integration project to link Eurostar’s online ticketing with UK National Rail.
London (eNewsPR) 8 January 2008 — Eurostar, the high-speed international rail operator, announced last week that Fujitsu Services, a European IT services company, has connected its online ticketing system with those of seven UK train operators.
Cities such as Leicester, Cambridge, York and Birmingham and other towns with mainline stations into London are now directly linked to Paris, Lille, Brussels and other destinations in France and Belgium through the website eurostar.com.
It makes travelling to mainland Europe even easier as passengers from 68 towns and cities across the UK can now book a single ticket at eurostar.com which is valid for the entire journey. Previously travellers had to book domestic and international rail travel separately.
Fujitsu Services has linked Eurostar’s online ticketing system with those of Chiltern Railways, East Midlands Trains, First Capital Connect, Hull Trains, London Midland, National Express East Coast and Virgin Trains. The second phase of the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, will see many more UK towns and cities connected to eurostar.com.
Steve Andre, managing director private sector at Fujitsu Services, said: “This is a significant contract for Fujitsu and will make a fundamental difference to the way in which Eurostar is able to operate. To help Eurostar improve its customer service in such a fundamental way is exactly the sort of business outcome that Fujitsu aims for with all its customers.”
Jamel Chandoul, head of distribution and commercial systems at Eurostar, said: “With this new ticketing system many travellers can now book their entire journey from their local mainline station to Continental Europe through one joined-up service – making their Eurostar experience even better.”
