Alcatel-Lucent announces HSDPA version of OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, bringing advanced laptop security to Europe

Enterprise product will be available via European wireless carriers
UK-managed service providers n3k and Magdalene first to consider services



Paris, March 2008 — Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced its plans to support high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA)-based 3G networks on its OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, a revolutionary ”always on” laptop security and management system for the mobile workforce. The OA3500 NLG is currently available for CDMA networks.

European service providers with HSDPA networks can combine the OA3500 NLG with their 3G services to provide a turnkey laptop security solution for enterprises and government agencies. UK-based managed service providers n3k and Magdalene are the first to explore offering a fully managed turnkey solution to European enterprises.

The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is a security system on an HSDPA 3G card that remotely secures, monitors, manages and locates a mobile computer and protects its data if lost or stolen. The NLG has its own processor, power supply and operating system, and it leverages broadband networks to let enterprises manage laptops anywhere, anytime, even when the computer is turned off.

With this solution, IT departments have 24/7 access to laptops and are able to enforce policies for compliance, protect and recover stolen devices, and deliver patches and upgrades to an increasingly mobile workforce, thereby increasing productivity and efficiency.

Availability
The OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian for HSDPA networks will be commercially available later this year through Alcatel-Lucent channels in Europe, primarily through service providers that will bundle the solution with their 3G wireless WAN offerings.



About the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian
The core technology of the OA3500 solution consists of a secure, always-on computing system residing on a 3G broadband PCMCIA data card that operates with any broadband network, including 3G, Ethernet or WiFi. When a laptop is connected to a network, the card seamlessly transitions connectivity to the corporate network through it’s always on VPN, ensuring that all traffic, regardless of data connection type, passes directly through the corporate network’s protections, filters and policy managers before accessing the Internet.

Through interoperable encryption solutions, the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian renders the laptop’s data readable only through the use of keys located on the PCMCIAcard, which can be remotely disabled or re-enabled by the corporate IT manager – even when the laptop is turned off or offline.

The Alcatel-Lucent OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian is based on a flexible operating system and open architecture that enables third parties to develop software to utilize the capabilities of the PCMCIA card or to interoperate with the management gateway. Examples of complementary applications include patch management, remote back-ups, end-policy enforcement and control, and whole disk encryption solutions.
