Panasonic And Vonage® Team Up To Develop 5.8 Ghz Cordless Broadband Phone System
New Phone System plugs directly Into a Customer’s Broadband Connection, Eliminating the Need for a Stand-Alone Adapter and Telephone.
LAS VEGAS, NV (January 3, 2006) — Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company, a leading marketer of telecommunications and other consumer electronics products, and Vonage Marketing, a subsidiary of Vonage Holdings Corp., a leading broadband phone company, have teamed up to develop a broadband cordless phone system, configured with Vonage’s service.
The new phone system, co-developed by the two companies and manufactured by Panasonic, will use a unique system that permits direct telephone hook up to a customer’s broadband connection, eliminating the need for a stand-alone adaptor.
“Vonage and Panasonic share a similar vision for the future of communications,” stated Daniel Smires, senior vice president of Engineering of Vonage Network. “This collaboration is another example of how our two companies are working to change the way people communicate by offering choices that fit any lifestyle.”
“Voice-over-IP communications (VoIP) offers a number of practical benefits to consumers,” said Frank Lasorsa, vice president, product and marketing communications division, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company, “and our collaboration with Vonage allows us to deliver this important feature. Vonage’s technology meshes well with our development, manufacturing and marketing expertise, to help us deliver cutting edge products and capabilities.”
This system, co-developed by the two companies, enables consumers and small businesses to easily set up a high-quality feature-rich phone service via their broadband connection, at significantly reduced rates in comparison to traditional telephone service. Further, by capitalizing on Vonage’s strengths in broadband telephony and Panasonic’s strong reputation in developing and marketing high-quality phone handsets, retailers have the opportunity to increase sales and expand consumer choice in VoIP hardware.
“Together, Vonage and Panasonic are collaborating to offer everything a customer needs to make high-quality, inexpensive phone calls, in one simple, easy-to-use device,” said Daniel Smires.
