Nortel VoIP Solution Helps Italy’s TWT Connect More Businesses and Expand Market
New VoIP and Multimedia Applications Open Unified Communications Opportunities
MILAN - TWT S.p.A. will introduce advanced IP Powered Business services and international VoIP transit for businesses, voice service resellers and international wholesale customers using a Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT ] VoIP solution. The solution for TWT will incorporate unified communications capabilities such as voice and messaging integration that can be activated as needed.
Based in Milan, in Italy’s Lombardy region, TWT has operated as an independent telecommunications company since 1995. The company services the telecommunications needs of corporate, carrier and reseller markets in the region and across Italy. TWT’s new Nortel VoIP platform is currently under deployment and is expected to be in full service by the end of this month.
The TWT client base includes 16 national carriers and 30 international carriers exchanging voice traffic with markets in the U.S., Europe, Africa and Asia. These licensed operators, national and international carriers use TWT’s Wholesale services.
The Nortel solution for TWT is based on the Communication Server 2000 (CS 2000) IP multimedia softswitch. The CS 2000 enables SIP-based interconnection for end users and delivers the capability to manage high telephone traffic volumes without compromising quality of service. The switch also helps TWT to reduce its operating costs and improve the overall profitability of its wholesale business.
The platform includes advanced services from Nortel’s Global Services portfolio including installation and commissioning, network integration and post-in-service customer technical support. These services help to optimize the implementation of TWT’s VoIP technology and ensure world-class reliability and best voice quality for TWT customers.
"We chose Nortel’s solution because it gave us the communications flexibility and innovation ability to address current customer client needs as well as growing business opportunities with resellers and corporate customers. These customers demand the very best communications services today and need to know that we can predict and support their communications needs into the future" said Rossano Bernardi, chief technology officer TWT. "Nortel’s expertise helps us create and offer high-quality and complex telecommunications solutions that unify technology know-how and can be delivered in a simple and cost-effective manner"
The Nortel solution will allow TWT to provide all the Class 4 services presently managed by their existing DMS and to extend their service offering with new VoIP and multimedia services based on SIP.
The CS 2000 SIP capabilities and interconnection with a large number of CPE and IP PBX allows TWT to extend its customer base and address these new markets. With its Nortel VoIP solution TWT also intends to expand its geographical footprint to cover underserved areas, as well as delivering advanced hosted and managed services such as IP Centrex.
With more than 70 new Carrier VoIP customers in 2008, Nortel now has more than 320 Carrier VoIP customers globally. Nortel was ranked by Dell’Oro as the leader in Carrier VoIP globally every year for the past six years (2002 through 2007). Nortel has now shipped over 100 million Carrier IP Voice and Multimedia ports to wireline, wireless and cable carriers globally.
