Ebay Selling Collects $6,100 for Old Beer Can
A Vintage (Empty) Beer Can recently sold on eBay for $6,100. In spite of having a somewhat traditional Beer Can design something unique had caught the eye of bidders.
The opening bid started at $2,000 on March, 2nd 2009. Seven days later the lighter had received 21 bids from the 5 bidders who participated in the frenzy.
According to James Massey, publisher of www.WhatSellsBest.com, a website which provides free list of top selling eBay items. “It appears some collectible Beer Cans have a high collector demand in spite of our current economy. More than 15 (Beer Cans) have fetched final (eBay selling) prices between $1,000 to $6,000 in the last 90 days.”
Rare “Flat Top” cans, which were once opened with a can opener, (before tabs were installed) and “Cone Shaped” cans which were capped with a bottle cap appear to be the favorites among collectors.
Even beer cans rusted all the way through, can fetch high prices if they’re considered rare by collectors. Recently “Kuebler / Bock Beer” (cone shaped) can with serious rust damage received final eBay selling price over $1,600.
Massey also stated; “Many times the owners of rare collectibles are not professional collectors. So having no idea of their item’s value, they end up selling it for pennies on the dollar in a garage or yard sale. It’s a real shame, because today it’s so easy to get a general sense of market value for most items. It usually only takes a few minutes using free online sites.”
