Arkema announces 50% capacity increase at its Changshu Forane® 22 production plant in China
04/07/2006, The world’s second leading producer of fluorochemicals, Arkema announces a 50% capacity increase at its Changshu Forane® 22 plant in China.
Opened in 2000, the Changshu Forane® 22 production plant, 120 km west of Shanghai, enjoys hydrofluoric acid integration. A larger production capacity will allow Arkema to develop its position in Asia’s buoyant markets, for both refrigeration and the manufacture of fluorinated polymers. Arkema is the sole western producer of fluorochemicals in China.
Forane® 22 is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) used as a refrigerant fluid for air-conditioning and commercial refrigeration. It is also used as a raw material for the manufacture of a number of polymers, including PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene).
The world’s second largest producer of fluorochemicals, Arkema currently operates four production facilities on three continents: Pierre-Bénite in France, Zaramillo in Spain, Changshu in China, and Calvert City in the United States. Marketed under the trademark Forane®, the products manufactured in these four plants supply the refrigeration and air-conditioning (construction and motorcar), insulating foam, solvent and aerosol industries.
A global chemical player, Arkema consists of 3 coherent and balanced business segments: Vinyl Products, Industrial Chemicals, and Performance Products. Present in over 40 countries with 18,400 employees, Arkema achieves sales of 5.7 billion euros. With its 6 research centers in France, the United States and Japan, and internationally recognized brands, Arkema holds leadership positions in its principal markets.
