iPayables Prioritizes ADA Compliance

iPayables, Inc. announced new functionality to improve accessibility to their online applications and further comply with ADA regulations.

Understandably, more than just being a good citizen, federal law requires that businesses, small and large, comply with ADA regulations. “Software companies often don’t recognize that there is a large contingent of users that have disabilities, and software needs to be designed to accommodate those users’ specific needs,” said iPayables CEO, Ken Virgin. ADA regulations require online applications to be navigated by the blind or visually impaired. This means contrast between text and background, font size, tab order, and especially tags for screen readers need to be considered in design and development of applications to ensure that they are accessible to all.

Reviews of the ADA compliance changes were met with mixed reviews by users. Not unlike the application of other ADA regulations in society, some users questioned why the application was being changed. However, for those with disabilities, the modifications were a welcome change. “Really great in changing the font! I can see the invoices without my glasses. Thank you!,” commented one user.

Internet applications have traditionally catered to younger audiences, lacking the accessibility for those who may be vision, hearing, or otherwise impaired. This is still the case with many internet applications, with many businesses slow to make these changes.

iPayables announced the new changes, but also clarified that accessibility-specific functionality is not a one-time effort. “While we have made many positive changes, we recognize that there will still be areas to improve in and we welcome feedback from our community,” said Jon Titel, CTO.

ADA compliance is the latest in iPayables efforts to assist organizations in regulation compliance. Other areas of regulation often overlooked by payables automation providers but part of the iPayables solution include HIPAA compliance and SOC1 Type 2 audits. iPayables also undergoes various audits related to the banking relationships they support.
