California Reigns Supreme for Timely Non-degree Training Programs According to Alternatives to College LLC’s New Online Directory

The massive database assembled by and found on www.AlternativesToCollege.com indicates that 621 providers of so-called college alternative programs are operating across California, more than in any other state.  Programs offered by these providers are faster and cheaper alternatives to college degree programs and are attractive to many whose jobs have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Alternatives to College, a private company in Boca Raton, Florida, started building its database in early 2019 with a national index comprised of slightly more than 300 providers.  Since that time, Alternatives to College’s data has grown exponentially to include over 7,000 providers of training, certification, registration, vocational, career and related programs.

As of April 1, 2020, this database, easily accessible online, indicates that these top five states are home to over 2,000 providers of faster, cheaper alternatives to traditional college programs: CA (621), FL (421), NC (371), TX (341), PA (289).

“Traditional higher education has been the incumbent leader in postsecondary education for well over a hundred years.  Now in 2020, the universe of college alternatives providers has almost equaled, and will likely surpass, the number of colleges and universities by next year,” said Barry Layne, Alternatives to College’s president.

“We are delighted to shed more light on this alternative career preparation pathway, and glad that our resource is being used by the millions of people across the country seeking good paying jobs that do not require degrees, while  saving years of compulsory classroom study and tens of thousands of dollars in costs,” he added.

In all, Alternatives to College’s website has over 40,000 programs that can be searched online at no cost, with providers in all 50 states including dozens of online-only program providers – a great advantage for those stuck at home during this pandemic.

The initial test version of www.AlternativesToCollege.com was developed by a sister company beginning in January 2019 and deployed on May 15. After a surprisingly positive response to its unveiling the data and website were moved to Alternatives to College LLC to continue development.  The database, the largest and most complete anywhere, is collected, curated, reviewed, edited and assessed daily from the company’s Boca Raton headquarters in The Research Park at Florida Atlantic University.
