Poet Terrence Beard’s “Jungle Water” Speaks to the Heart of all Underdogs as It Sets Off for Book Exhibit at LATFOB 2024

Terrence Beard is a proud African-American poet whose writing journey began after losing his father to lung cancer back in 2004. Recently, he had begun publishing his many works in deeply emotional and dramatic anthologies. The second of these has just been published last year under the tile “Jungle Water.” It’s a book with a central theme about encouraging America’s underdogs and fighting the good fight. It’s even set to exhibit at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2024.

“Written from the heart, by a man who wants to help others through the challenges in life.”

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books is often regarded as an exciting opportunity for many writers who want to use their work as a means to give voice to the voiceless, encourage the demotivated, and empower the underrepresented. So, for African-American urban poet Terrence Beard, that means his book will be right at home.

Beard was a 2023 Springtime Bookfest Award winner for third place in poetry. His poetry collection “Jungle Water: New Depths in American Poetry” is the second book in his authorship journey, but his life as a poet started much earlier back in 2004. This was when he witnessed the death of his father to lung cancer. At the age of 36, he began to dedicate himself to perfecting his verses as an outlet throughout his life’s many challenges.

On the other hand, Jungle Water seeks to go beyond himself and speak to the many souls who have been in the same situation as he had. It’s broken down into five parts, with five corresponding themes. Many of the poems in the book don’t shy from getting political, discussing everything from critical race theory to overcoming the adversity built into the system.

The poems reflect his own experience of suffering many setbacks in life’s uphill struggle and wants to let others know that they are not alone in such trials. Furthermore, many of his poems encourage readers to also keep reaching for whatever greatness they can grasp regardless of these setbacks.

Visitors to the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2024 can find “Jungle Water: New Depths in American Poetry” by Terrence Beard displayed over at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit at booth #225. The book festival will be held at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, on April 20-21, 2024. The book is available on BookBaby & Amazon.
