First pole position for Aldeguer with Pirelli in Moto2™, second pole in a row for Alonso in Moto3™

On the Jerez de la Frontera track, Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) took his first pole position of the year in Moto2™ with a time of 1’40.673, using the softest tyre options available, the SC1 front and the SC0 rear.

Second pole position in a row for David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team/CFMOTO) who was the fastest Moto3™ rider in all the sessions, clinching pole in the Spanish GP with a time of 1’44.954. Yesterday, the Colombian rider had broken the circuit’s all-time record doing 1’43.710, 1.278 seconds faster than the one set by Andrea Migno in 2021. The SC2 (medium) and SC1 (soft) were his tyre choices.

Both slicks and rain tyres perform well

“For the moment, we are satisfied with the performance of our tyres, both slicks and rain tyres. It rained throughout the night and into early Saturday morning, so today the riders weren’t able to improve the times they had done yesterday because the rain actually reset the track, washing away the rubber that had deposited there yesterday. In Moto3, already in free practice yesterday, Alonso had set the new track record, whereas in Moto2, both Joe Roberts in P1 and Aldeguer in Q2 came extremely close, in spite of the wind during qualifying. In the morning, the riders in both categories did an entire session on a wet track and that allowed them to get some experience with our rain tyres as well. The weather conditions tomorrow should be similar to those on Friday. Therefore, the information gathered yesterday will be valuable in view of the race to assess which compounds to use on the starting grid. Some riders did some long runs more than 15 laps with different compounds achieving outstanding results and good, even wear. Each rider has a specific strategy and they have advanced their work. Tomorrow we’ll see if the riders’ choices will all move in one direction or if, as has happened in the past, we see different compounds in action.”

Moto2™

· The sessions on Friday were held on dry track with asphalt temperatures betwen 25 degrees Celsius in FP and 35 in P1. In the first session, Alonso Lopez (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was the fastest using the SC2 (medium) compound at the front and the SC1 (soft) rear, whereas in P1, Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) did the best time of the session, just 24 thousandths off the track record with the SC1 (soft) front and SC0 (soft) rear. 

· In FP2 on Saturday morning, all the riders used rain tyres in the SCR1 compound due to the rain that had fallen during the night. Then, the sun and wind dried out the track quickly, allowing the riders to use slicks in qualifying, which were held with asphalt temperatures that exceeded 32 degrees Celsius.

· First pole position of the season for Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) with a time of 1’40.673, achieved with the SC0 (soft) compound at the rear and the SC1 (soft) at the front. Albert Arenas (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2/Kalex) made the same tyre choices, second in the rankings, as did Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Aspar Team/Kalex), third.

Moto3™

· Sun and a dry track in qualifying, held with asphalt temperatures of about 25 degrees Celsius. David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar Team/CFMOTO), after being the fastest in all the sessions, took pole position in 1’44.954 using the SC2 (medium) front and the SC1 (soft) rear. At the rear, all the riders opted for the soft. At the front, the SC2 was the most popular, also chosen by third-place finisher Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Husqvarna), whereas the team BOE Motorsports riders, David Muñoz and Joel Kelso – respectively second and fourth – opted for the SC1.

· P2 in the morning was the first session of the season held in wet conditions and all the riders used DIABLO Rain tyres, with David Alonso confirming his status as the fastest. 

· In the FP sessions on Friday, Colombian rider Alonso had already broken the all-time lap record set by Andrea Migno in 2021, only to improve on it in P1 with a time of 1’43.710. In P1, besides him, Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3/GASGAS), Collin Veijer and Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3/GASGAS) also did times faster than the track record. All of them, as well as the majority of the riders, used the SC2 (medium) front and SC1 (soft) rear tyre combination.
