AGO invites Ontario to reconnect with art for free this weekend

First Wednesday Night Free launches Wednesday, May 1; Museum to offer free admission weekend of May 4 & May 5; New special exhibition Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800, goes on view revealing hidden histories through art, craft and scent

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is reopening and to give all Ontarians as many opportunities as possible to reconnect with their favourite artworks, the AGO is opening its doors for free this weekend.

The AGO will release a limited number of free General Admission tickets on ago.ca for First Wednesday Night Free, a new monthly open door event launching May 1.  These tickets provide free admission between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. For more information, visit ago.ca/events/first-wednesday-night-free.

In addition, admission to the entire museum will be free on Saturday, May 4, 2024, and Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm.  Included during this free admission weekend is the new special exhibition Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800. One of Toronto’s most affordable cultural attractions, admission is free for all Ontario residents under 25, AGO Members and $40 AGO Annual Pass holders. Single tickets are $30. Memberships, Annual Passes, and single tickets are available at tickets.ago.ca. Admission is always free for Indigenous peoples.

ShopAGO’s on-site store will reopen to the public on Tuesday, April 30. Online shopping at shop.ago.ca resumes same day.

AGO Bistro will reopen for lunch and dinner service on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. For hours and menus, visit ago.ca/ago-bistro. The Espresso Bar in the Tanenbaum Sculpture Atrium will reopen Tuesday, April 30, 2024, followed by the Norma Ridley Members’ Lounge on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

Spring programs, courses, and performances
From yoga to artist talks, performances, and studio courses, the AGO is Toronto’s place for creative connection this spring.  The Dr. Mariano Elia Hands-On Centre reopens on Saturday, May 4 at 10:30 a.m. for children aged 6 and under. Registration for Spring studio courses continues and Summer course registration will begin in mid-May at  AGO.ca/learn/courses-and-workshops.
