Coggno Partners up With SilkWeb to Deliver Preventative Bullying Curriculum to Schools Across the Country
San Jose, CA, Coggno, a Bay Area eLearning technology company , partners up with SilkWeb Consulting, to deliver preventive bullying curriculum to schools across the country. In March of 2010, nine teenagers were charged with relentlessly bullying a 15-year-old girl until she was drove to commit suicide. Allegedly, numerous teachers and school administrators were aware and witnessed these brutal accounts, yet nothing was done to protect her.
In response to bullying and cyber bullying in schools, and recent tragedies that have occurred around the country, Coggno and SilkWeb reach out to schools and provide them with, at no cost, a comprehensive bullying prevention course focused on giving educators and administrators the tools to identify, control, and address bullying issues in and around their schools.
This eLearning course examines the prevalence of bullying in schools, and is geared toward professional educators, school staff, and parents. Suggestions for reducing the incidences of bullying at school are discussed, as well as ways to teach youths to avoid becoming a victim. As bullying becomes an escalated problem, a new wave of harassment, known as cyber bullying, is beginning to become much more prevalent in which over 40% of teens who have internet access, have reported being bullied. Cyber bullying is hard to regulate because it takes place on the web, during and after school hours.
Many people assume that bullying is a rite of passage for some kids growing up, and therefore dismiss the potential problem. However, bullying has rapidly escalated to serious forms of abuse that leave victims physically injured, humiliated, berated, and violated. Some have experienced vicious rumors or have had impersonated pictures of them circle around the school. Some have encounter threats, and public denigration on a daily basis. Pent up resentment within a victim can result in violent retaliation toward those who bullied him or her, or in other cases may cause harm to their person by committing suicide as a way to escape their daily torment. In less severe cases, students may never develop a sense of ambition or self worth as a result of continuous deprecation from their fellow classmates.
Having strong anti-bullying policies in place at schools may not be enough. Most teachers and administrators have never been trained on bullying prevention and therefore do not know how to intervene. Others may not realize the devastating effect that school bullying and cyber bullying has on these children.
The goal of this training is to educate parents, teachers and school staff on how kids are being bullied today and how adults can help the bullies and the victims to ultimately reduce school bullying. Coggno and SilkWeb’s turn-key solution covers all aspects of bullying such as; why a child bullies, what makes a victim more likely to be a target, and how you can identify and prevent bullying.
