Fujitsu and Novell Deliver Agility in the Cloud

Munich, Helsinki and Waltham, Mass. - Fujitsu IaaS for Server solution combined with Novell’s intelligent workload management technologies helps customers more easily align IT with rapidly changing business needs

Novell and Fujitsu announce a partnership to deliver cloud solutions that provide customers with the flexibility to scale IT infrastructure needs based on business demand. Through the partnership, Fujitsu will run its Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) for Server solutions using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server from Novell. Additionally, Fujitsu will leverage Intelligent Workload Management (IWM) software from Novell for Fujitsu’s Dynamic Infrastructure services. The cloud resources will be available across Continental Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.

Fujitsu IaaS for Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server from Novell
IaaS for Server - launched by Fujitsu in November 2009 - is marking an IT paradigm shift by transforming infrastructure assets into variable costs that align to business demand. Companies have the option to replace all or some of their on-premise hardware with a simple, secure connection in dedicated Fujitsu data centers. The flexible IaaS for Server offering will leverage the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server platform from Novell to deliver cost-effective, mission-critical computing for its physical, virtual, appliance and cloud deployments.

Pay-as-you-go is a key criterion in Fujitsu’s definition of cloud computing, as outlined in their global cloud strategy announcement earlier this year, and IaaS for Server further strengthens Fujitsu’s global offerings in what the company has defined as Mode 1 of cloud computing which is infrastructure consumption.

Fujitsu’s IaaS for Server offering is ideal for companies who want to focus on their own core business and let external experts manage their IT. IaaS for Server benefits both small-medium enterprises that have little or no internal IT support and large corporations looking to manage peak demand by outsourcing parts of their IT. Fujitsu’s IaaS for Server is also ideal for customers who wish to buy computing power in a very flexible way, allowing for a buffer at peak times.

"Our partnership with Fujitsu gives joint customers and partners a better way to manage their virtual infrastructures" said Markus J. Krauss, VP Service Provider Novell EMEA. "By delivering solutions for the intelligent workload management market, we are providing a deeper and better integrated set of enterprise-class solutions that provide the tools to enable agility in the data center and the world-class infrastructure to run high-performance virtual environments"

"Customers want a more flexible server infrastructure that scales with their changing business needs" said Rolf Kleinwächter, Head of Infrastructure-as-a-Service at Fujitsu Technology Solutions. "By providing the interoperability and high availability platform capabilities offered by SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell, our joint customers and partners will be able to purchase on demand and managed data center services that cover the entire range of servers, memory systems and networks for the computing center"

Fujitsu Dynamic Infrastructure services and Novell Intelligent Workload Management solutions
The partnership between Fujitsu and Novell will also result in combined solutions that leverage Intelligent Workload Management (IWM) software from Novell and Fujitsu’s expertise in delivering Dynamic Infrastructure services.

In the Nordic region, comprising Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, Fujitsu’s next generation services platform will include Novell Identity and Security and Systems Management solutions to match the dynamic changes in the infrastructure. Novell’s approach to intelligent workload management integrates identity and systems management capabilities into an application workload, thereby increasing the workload’s security and portability across physical, virtual and cloud environments. As a result, enterprises are able to significantly reduce the risks and challenges of computing across multiple environments while granting their users secure and compliant access to the full computing services they need.

"Orchestration and identity-awareness allow quick and granular responses to changing customer needs. Novell’s intelligent workload management technologies complement Fujitsu’s service deployment and help us offer better service", says Tuomas Levoniemi from Fujitsu Finland.
