110 million euro energy efficiency orders in German data and call centers

WEBWIRE

Gouda - Imtech (technical services provider in Europe) announces that it has received orders to a value of over 110 million euro for the upgrading and expansion of the technical infrastructure in multiple data centers and call centers in Germany. Besides expanding their capacity, Imtech’s innovative solutions result in considerably lower energy consumption at these centers.

Imtech CEO René van der Bruggen: ‘Capacity, reliability and energy consumption are strategic issues in the data center and call center market. Imtech offers high-tech total solutions via optimum technological integration in combination with innovative energy-efficient solutions. This enables us to realise further growth in this market. This is perfectly in line with our growth strategy for 2015.’

Multiple German orders
Imtech is a specialist in the energetic and technological structuring, restructuring and upgrading of data centers and call centers. Imtech (Imtech Deutschland) acquired multiple orders for the upgrading and expansion of data centers of, among other companies, Lidl, Toshiba, Audi and a computer supplier, as well as the Deutsche Telekom call centers (Deutsche Telekom Kunden Service) in Bielefeld, Recklinghausen and Meschede.

Data centers are approaching critical limits
A strong increase in digital payment transactions and the bandwidth of information streams lead data and telecom providers, but also insurers, retailers and the automotive industry to decide on the renewal and/or expansion of existing data centers. In addition, in modern call centers the scale is increasing substantially, so that they are literally developing into high-tech ‘information hubs’. The capacity of data centers and call centers is increasing immensely, and the energy consumption of these centers forms such a substantial component of the energy bill that for financial reasons alone, the companies are required to conserve energy. Moreover, heat emission is approaching a critical level.

Innovative Imtech vision with low PUE
In the Imtech vision relating to the ‘data centers of tomorrow’, the main focus is on a very energy-efficient ‘green’ technical infrastructure. This can be achieved via optimum integration of the entire technical infrastructure in combination with high-tech energy-saving facilities. In the Imtech R&D center in Hamburg, Germany, simulation tests are carried out that lead to high energy efficiency, so that an extremely low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) - lower than 1.3 - becomes possible. PUE is an objective benchmark that indicates how much energy is actually used in a data center. The ideal PUE is 1.0. For data center clients, the Imtech vision not only results in cost savings, but also in performance and efficiency improvement. In addition, the vision contributes to clients’ CSR objectives.

Growth in data centers in accordance with Imtech 2015 strategy
Expansion in the European data center market forms an important spearhead in Imtech’s 2015 growth strategy. Imtech offers technological total solutions for data center ‘build, maintain & operate’ contracts. Besides energy-saving measures, innovative solutions for cooling and the reduction of harmful emissions, Imtech also focuses on high-tech IT solutions such as ‘cloud-based computing’ (the sharing of computer infrastructure) and specific network IT services on the basis of virtualisation (the optimisation of data use and storage). Imtech consequently has a good position for further growth in this market. At the end of 2010, Imtech already received a mega order for ‘green’ data centers for BT in the Netherlands and Germany.
