Green Energy Development Applauds The Southern Company In Increasing Solar Power Generation To Its Georgia Power Portfolio

WEBWIRE

Johns Creek, Atlanta. – July 18, 2013 –Green Energy Development (“GED”), a premier global developer of all forms of sustainable renewable energy solutions and facilities, applauds The Southern Company and Georgia state regulators in realizing the State of Georgia’s potential to harness its abundant solar power.

Working with the Georgia Public Service Commission, Georgia Power will almost triple its commitment to solar energy generation.  The state is fifth in the nation for potential solar energy, but is ranked 38th in total number of solar projects installed.  In 2012/2013, Georgia Power committed to adding 210 megawatts of solar to its generation mix by 2015 through the Advanced Solar Initiative. The recent increase of this commitment to 525 megawatts by 2016 (i.e., 260 MW by 2015, with remaining 265 MW by 2016) was voted on and approved by the Georgia Public Service Commission on July 11th, 2013.  GED intends to take full advantage of this solar generation capacity increase with a specific initiative on the development of medium and large-scale solar facilities in Georgia Power territories throughout the state.

Mr. David Ames, GED’s Chairman and CEO, states, “We’re excited for Georgia Power and its recent addition of solar generation capacity.  As a Georgia-based company, we see the full solar potential of Georgia and how much it has to offer to the solar power industry and Georgia residents.”  He added, “We are thrilled at the 525 megawatts of solar power being added to Georgia Power’s portfolio, and GED has already begun its development efforts to identify and qualify potential solar site locations in anticipation of the roll out of this increased solar capacity.”
