Two Dentists Receive Top State Honors in CT
Two dentists from a local practice receive top dentist honors from Connecticut Magazine and peer recognition several years in a row, and again this year.
"Although we are honored for our peer and statewide recognition, it would never have come to fruition without our great staff."
Two dentists from Contemporary Dentistry in Groton, CT, received the Top Dentist recognition from CT Magazine for the category General Dentistry. Dr. John “Jack” Johnson received Top Dentist in 2010, 2011, 2012 and now for 2013, and Dr. Donna Sanfilippo received Top Dentist in 2011, 2012 and again in 2013.
For those who know him, “Jack” Johnson is an affable, witty man, who has practiced for over 25 years, and enjoys his work so much, he doesn’t even begin to think about retirement. Dr. Sanfilippo feels the compliment of the peer recognition. “Although we are honored for the recognition, it would never have come to fruition without our great staff,” say both dentists.
Connecticut Magazine publishes the Top Dentists Guide annually, and polls every dentist licensed in the state of CT, asking them to recommend a dentist they would send a loved one for care to, in seven categories. The only way to make the list is to be recommended by those dentists who return those questionnaires. The magazine considers the survey to have a high response rate.
Dr. Johnson grew up in Berwick, PA, a small town near the Pocono Mountains, and became interested in dentistry in middle school. He attended the University of Scranton on an athletic scholarship, and received a B.S. in biology. His dental degree comes from the Georgetown University School of Dentistry, where he joined the faculty following graduation, teaching the specialty of crown and bridge. He continues his athletic interests still today on the golf course. Dr. Johnson began practicing dentistry in CT in 1986.
Dr. Sanfilippo was born in the Bronx, NY, later moving to Bergen County, NJ as a teenager. She graduated from Farleigh Dickson University with a B.S. degree in Biochemistry. She then earned her master’s in Human Anatomy and Physiology. She completed her dental degree at SUNY Stony Brook and has been practicing dentistry for 24 years, where she enjoys specializing in cosmetic dentistry. She and her husband, Ross, who is an oral maxillofacial surgeon in New London, live on a 23-acre farm in Salem with their four children. Donna is one of only two state-certified DEP wildlife rehabilitators, specializing in the care of injured and orphaned white-tailed fawns. “I raise them until they’re 5 to 6 months of age, then slow-release them back into the wild,” she says.
Contemporary Dentistry is located in Groton, CT. The practice is remarkably high-tech with diagnostic equipment and TV monitors, but also has a cutting-edge reminder system that sends out reminders via text or emails several times before the appointment, starting one month out. They also have participated in a very unique reputation management system with requests for patient ratings via a feedback response system developed by a local marketing company in southeastern CT. “We want to make sure our patients are happy with our services and that we help them,” says “Jack”.
