Fujifilm Joins the March Against Colorectal Cancer as Sponsor of ’One Million Strong’in NYC
Wayne, NJ, February 26, 2014 – As part of its ongoing commitment to promoting early detection of colon cancer, The Endoscopy Division of FUJIFILM Medical Systems U.S.A., Inc. will be supporting a national movement called ‘One Million Strong’ hosted by Fight Colorectal Cancer (Fight CRC). As a proud sponsor, Fujifilm will participate in Fight CRC’s kick-off educational event in New York City at Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall®, Monday, March 3, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
‘One Million Strong’ is led by Fight CRC, a national advocacy organization that designed the campaign, inspired by over one million colorectal cancer survivors in the U.S. who have shown tremendous strength in light of the disease. The kick-off event will include an inflatable walk-through colon, dancing, yoga, a vow renewal ceremony for survivors and caregivers, celebrity appearances and more. The goal of the event is to bring together the strength of one million colorectal cancer survivors sharing stories of strength, hope and change, attracting new advocates and donors.
“Fujifilm is a pioneer in developing innovative medical solutions and endoscopic devices designed to provide physicians with better images to diagnose disease at its earliest stage,” said Kurt Cannon, Vice President of Sales, Marketing, Operations & Support Services. “The fight against colorectal cancer is one of our organization’s top priorities. We are excited to be a part of this event and support Fight Colorectal Cancer - an organization that is invested in similar initiatives – to empower survivors and provide valuable resources and expertise to help in the fight against colorectal cancer.”
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men and women in the U.S. but it is highly preventable. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 60 percent of deaths from colorectal cancer could be avoided with screening.
“Recent data shows us that people exposed to screening information are two-to-three times more likely to get screened for colorectal cancer,” said Anjee Davis, Interim Executive Director of Fight Colorectal Cancer. “Our campaign, ‘One Million Strong,’ is designed to raise awareness, empower survivors, and educate the public about screening. Ultimately we hope to save lives.”
The event will include a march where survivors and advocates will join several local partners and sponsors to walk down to 43rd Street in Manhattan. The march will conclude in Times Square under the NASDAQ boards where Fight CRC representatives and Fujifilm executives will then ring the closing bell. Colorectal cancer awareness announcements and Fujifilm’s messaging -- stressing the importance of getting screened to detect colorectal cancer at a more treatable stage – will follow on the NASDAQ screen.
“This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Blue Star – a symbol for colorectal cancer that has united all of us in the colorectal cancer community,” continued Davis. “We are happy to be celebrating with our sponsors and partners who are just as committed to our cause.”
