Why Affluent Areas of London Attract Independent Contractors
We can clearly see that being an independent contractor is a favoured career path and one that’s now being shown to reap dividends, according to statistics.
Where would you choose to live if you were a contractor? Would you choose to live in areas that are more densely populated, in order to give you more opportunities? Or would you decide to consider your own lifestyle and current career path in deciding to live in a relatively affluent location?
Research conducted by Professional Representation Network shows that independent contractors are increasingly taking advantage of a new freedom and enhanced, independent lifestyle to live in more affluent locations.
For example, let’s look at the city of London. Here we can see that the average proportion of contractors as compared to others within the working population is 11.9%. Toward the top end of the scale in the most vibrant London boroughs such as Bromley, Harrow and Wandsworth we see the figure rising to an average of 13.5%. Most striking however is the average number of independent contractors living in the most wealthy and affluent boroughs in London, such as Kensington and Chelsea. Here we can see that the number is 18% of the working population.
This clearly shows a propensity for the average independent contractor to choose an area which more correctly reflects their life positioning. Put in another way their ability to earn high amounts of income means that they can settle in the more affluent neighbourhoods where they will find higher quality housing, better amenities, schools with great reputations and plenty of outdoor opportunities.
It’s not just a coincidence that the less affluent boroughs in the city of London have the lowest proportion of independent contractors compared to the average working population. We can clearly see that being an independent contractor is a favoured career path and one that’s now being shown to reap dividends, according to statistics.
While London is a favourite destination due to its burgeoning economy and large amount of opportunities, independent contractors are also finding more remote, affluent rural areas to be attractive as well. High standards of living and high average earnings are increasingly consistent with the world of the independent contractor.
Professional Representation Network helps the independent contractor to manage their lives effectively and to plot a career path forward.
