Moovit Spearheads the Local Transit Revolution with Wearable Editions for Android & iOS
Born for Android Wear in Q2 and Apple Watch in conjunction with device launch
“At Moovit, we believe in releasing our product where it’s needed most. In fact, according to analysts, sales projections for wearables will surpass $6B by the end of 2018,” said Nir Erez, CEO of Moovit. “Our determination to be a reality for this market will also cater to the existing 15M users, 500 cities, and 50 countries where our community lives. We’re already working with mobile carriers and manufacturers to help build and expand this ecosystem.”
Today, Moovit, the free intelligent local transit app, is announcing its forays into wearable technology: Moovit for Android Wear and Moovit for Apple Watch. Not satisfied simply delivering a product available for smartphones and tablets worldwide, the Moovit team wants transit to be front and center of the wearable revolution.
Small Screen & Relevant Information for Millennials On-the-Go
Larger and wider screens, while offering more screen real estate, don’t always make use of their ‘sizeable’ opportunities. Wearable devices, on the other hand, are built to show just the right information at just the right time, offering a non-intrusive, co-operative experience with the real world. That’s why Moovit for wearables is designed from the ground up for miniature displays, presenting local riders en route with only the most vital and actionable information for their journeys: service alerts, schedules, and stops for nearby lines or lines they’ve already favorited in the Moovit smartphone app.
Feature Breakdown
- Nearby Stops: See an overhead perspective of your surroundings and which stops are nearby!
- Live Itineraries: Moovit for wearables offers riders instant access to their favorite lines’ arrival and departure times, without ever having to pull their phones out of their pockets.
- Service Alerts: Riders can read or receive alerts and advisories about service disruptions in their local area.
Availability
The new Moovit app for Android wearables will be available in Google Play Store in Q2 of 2015, while Moovit for Apple Watch will be released in conjunction with the device’s own launch date, a shroud that Apple is expected to unveil in Cupertino on March 9, 2015.
Moovit’s expansion into the wearables market comes on the heels of its recent $50 million dollar Series-C funding round in January 2015 from partners including Nokia Growth Partners, BMW i Ventures, Keolis, Sequoia Capital, Bernard Arnault Group, Vaizra Investments, BRM Group, & Gemini Ventures.
Moovit, the smartphone app, is available for free in the Apple iTunes App Store , Google Play App Store , Windows Phone App Marketplace , or at moovitapp.com.
