TomTom opens office in Istanbul and launches award-winning portable navigation devices in Turkey

Istanbul.- TomTom, the world’s leading portable navigation provider, today announces that it is expanding into Turkey by opening up an office and launching its award-winning range of portable navigation devices (PNDs) there this summer. TomTom will enter the market with the following products: TomTom ONE Turkey (entry level PND), TomTom XL Turkey and TomTom XL Europe (mid-range PNDs) and the premium PND - TomTom GO 720 Europe. The products will be sold through various distributors and retailers. The new Turkish organisation is headed by Özgür Yiğiter, who previously held different senior marketing and sales positions at Sony.

“The global navigation market is swiftly expanding and providing smart and easy-to-use portable navigation products to drivers across the globe is key to TomTom’s business strategy”, says Harold Goddijn, TomTom’s chief executive officer. “Turkey offers large potential with millions of cars on the road every day, and we are confident that we can achieve the same leading position in Turkey that we already have in the rest of the world.”

TomTom portable navigation products
All TomTom products are developed in-house and are plug & play, which means that they can be used straight out of the box without having to read any instruction manuals. They also feature a large touch screen with an intuitive navigation menu and icons to easily let drivers plan their route. Clear Turkish voice instructions ensure drivers get to their destination easily and without stress. Different models are available with distinct feature sets to meet the varying needs of customers.

Maps
TomTom works with Tele Atlas, one of the world’s leading map providers to ensure customers reach their destination in the easiest way. TomTom users in Turkey can also benefit from TomTom’s unique Map Share™ technology. This map improvement technology allows drivers to easily improve their map as soon as they spot changes in the roads, with just a few touches on the screen of their device. These can include changes in street names, road speed limits, turn restrictions, traffic directions and road blocks, as well as corrections to Points of Interest, such as phone number changes.

Safety as a priority
Safety is a key priority in the development of all TomTom products. All TomTom devices come with comprehensive safety features, so drivers always have direct access to safety and roadside assistance information wherever they go.

TomTom HOME
All TomTom products come with TomTom HOME, TomTom’s free desktop software for PC/Mac. Through TomTom HOME, customers can easily download new software versions or the latest maps to keep their device up to date. TomTom Map Share™ users can also receive map improvements made by others for free as soon as they log on to TomTom HOME, making their maps as dynamic as the world they live in.
