Traditional Stick Builders Eying Modular Homes
There is no sugar coating this story, the housing industry in is terrible shape right now. With housing starts at an all time low and modular home factories laying off people and closing plants, the question needs to be asked, “When will things start to turn around?”
That’s the question everybody is asking right now according to Randall Eaton, best-selling author and modular home consultant. “Many economic experts are predicting the housing market will turn around in June of 2009. Others are saying things won’t improve until 2010, whatever your thoughts one thing is clear, we’re in a tough spot.”
Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Will the modular home industry start to improve sometime next year? To answer these questions we’ve asked Mr. Eaton to give us his thoughts about the modular housing industry and when he predicts things will improve.
“There is one indicator I rely upon to help me understand this market and where it’s heading. Normally, I receive a fair amount of calls each month from builders and developers asking me to help them with their building projects. Many of my clients are traditional home builders looking to utilize modular construction for their next project.
This past year for example has been really quiet, very few builders or developers have contacted me to discuss future projects. Obviously the conditions are terrible right now and that is why nobody is requesting my services. But this has changed recently, in the last 30-days builders and developers have been contacting me with projects located in North Carolina and New Jersey that may be suitable for modular homes. Just last week I received several emails requesting information about my services and it looks to me that builders are anxious to get started on projects for 2009. The fact that major developers are starting to contact me is a very good sign in my opinion.”
There is no way to know for sure if the modular housing industry is poised to make a comeback. But, if Mr. Eaton is correct in his assumption that builders are starting to make inquires about utilizing modular homes, it could be good news for everyone.
