In conjunction with its 2008 World AIDS Day activities, Levi Strauss & Co. makes a grant to the HIV Collaborative Fund to support people living with HIV/AIDS around the globe in their fight for treatment, care and support.
San Francisco . – December 1 is recognized around the world as World AIDS Day. Levi Strauss & Co. (LS&CO.) is launching a coordinated global effort commemorating World AIDS Day in its Levi’s® retail store locations as a way to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and the importance of knowing one’s HIV status through testing.
For several weeks prior to and during the week of December 1, Levi’s® stores around the world are featuring signage and information about HIV/AIDS, and offering commemorative items consumers can wear to show their support for global attention to the issue. Levi’s® stores in several countries in Asia are supporting local HIV/AIDS organizations with the proceeds from limited-edition t-shirts and making Levi’s® branded condoms available to all shoppers. All Levi’s® store employees have received HIV-education materials, and Levi’s® brand Web sites link to local AIDS organizations and interactive tools to help consumers learn more.
In commemoration of World AIDS Day 2008 and in line with the company’s and Levi Strauss Foundation’s legacy of philanthropy devoted to addressing HIV/AIDS, the company made a $50,000 grant to the HIV Collaborative Fund, an nonprofit organization that fights HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination by creating supportive legal and policy environments and building the capacity of grassroots advocacy groups around the world.
LS&CO.’s commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS began more than 25 years ago. It continues today through the company’s and the Levi Strauss Foundation’s philanthropic giving, employee volunteerism, workplace policies and practices, and LS&CO.’s HIV/AIDS Prevention, Treatment and Care Program, providing comprehensive services for LS&CO. employees and their dependents worldwide.
